Statement of Commitment

to Child Safety

Ngunytju Tjitji Pirni Aboriginal Corporation (NTP) is committed

to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

NTP is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. This commitment is enshrined in our organisational values, systems, policies, procedures, and culture, designed to empower and protect all children and young people in our services.

NTP strives to make all children and young people feel welcome and informed of their rights in a manner they can understand and in which they can engage.

NTP is committed to upholding the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations, outlined in the Commonwealth Governments Child Safety Framework:

  1. Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance, and culture.

  2. Children and young people are informed about their rights, participation in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.

  3. Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.

  4. Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.

  5. People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.

  6. Processes to respond to complaints and concerns are child focused.

  7. Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.

  8. Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.

  9. Implementation of the National Child Safety and Wellbeing Principles is regularly reviewed and improved.

  10. Policies and procedures document how the organisation is safe for children and young people.

NTP’s compliance with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations is ensured by our Child Protection Policy, our Safeguarding Policy, our Risk Management Framework, our recruitment, selection and training of staff, and our systems and processes for engaging with children and families.

Everyone at NTP understands the important and specific role they play, individually and collectively, to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of children and young people is at the forefront of every decision they make.

At NTP, we are transparent with community about how we operate as a child safe organisation, and make the following commitment to the children, young people and families accessing our services:

  • We will continually strive to make you feel welcome, safe, and empowered.

  • We will talk to you about your rights and responsibilities.

  • Your voice will be heard and respected, and we will advocate for you to be involved in all decisions relating to the care and support you receive.

  • We will listen to your concerns and act when something doesn’t feel right for you.

  • We will talk with you about our process for complaints and hear your suggestions on how we can improve.

  • We will do everything possible to make our physical and digital environments safe.

  • We have a zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently with our robust policies and procedures.

  • We have legal and moral obligations to contact authorities when we are worried about a child’s safety, which we follow rigorously.

  • We are committed to preventing child abuse, identifying risks early, and removing these risks.

  • We are committed to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children, children from culturally linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTI+ young people, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Our compliance with the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and our Statement of Commitment to Child Safety will be regularly reviewed to ensure ongoing compliance with the Commonwealth Governments Child Safety Framework.

Our Community Commitment to Keeping Children Safe

At Ngunytju Tjitji Pirni Aboriginal Corporation, our children are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, caring, and culturally strong environment for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.

We honour the strength, resilience, and wisdom of our communities. We recognise the important role women play as nurturers, leaders, and protectors, and we celebrate the knowledge passed down through families, Elders, and Country. Every child deserves to grow up surrounded by love, culture, language, and community — free from harm, fear, and discrimination.

What We Stand For

Together, we commit to:

  • Cultural Safety Making sure our spaces, decisions, and ways of working reflect deep respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories, and identities.

  • Child Safety Creating environments where children feel protected, supported, and safe to be themselves — and where abuse, neglect, and exploitation are never tolerated.

  • Empowerment Listening to the voices of children, young people, women, and families. Their experiences guide our work, shape our programs, and strengthen our community.

  • Accountability Holding ourselves, our partners, and our organisation to the highest standards of care, integrity, and cultural respect. We take responsibility for doing what is right.

  • Healing and Wellbeing Supporting opportunities for women, children, and families to grow strong through connection, culture, empowerment, and self‑determination.

This commitment reflects who we are as a community. It is our promise to honour our past, protect our children today, and nurture a strong future for generations to come
